Anthurium Veitchii x Forgetii Silver
Pot Size: 7cm
Seed Parent: Veitchii
Pollen Parent: Forgetii Silver
This is a special one. At the time of pollination over 2 years ago our 30+ year old Veitchii mother plant was already carrying berries from another cross, so we tried something crazy. Anthuriums are very hard so hybridize outside of their own Sections, but it leads to the best hybrids sometimes. We decided to use two types of pollen that were very unlikely to work (from other sections than Veitchii), but if they would, it would be a first in Europe (Forgetii silver) or even in the world as far as we know (Radicans). And because it was already carrying berries we wouldn't be sad if it didnt work, because then it could focus its energy on the other berries.
To our surprise the pollen took and it started producing berries. 16 months after pollination they were done, a long and excruciating wait. Veitchii is one of the Anthuriums with the longest gestation time (pregnancy if you will).
Some of the seedlings are glossy and have the Radicans as the pollen parent, some are semi-velvet and have the forgetii as the pollen parent. So both pollen actually worked and the seedlings look very different. The ones for sale here are the ones pollinated with Forgetii. Veitchii x Radicans seedlings are for sale elsewhere in the shop.
